Cute Marshmallow Pops

Marshmallow Pops I've been making these marshmallow pops for parties for years and I have figured out a couple of helpful hints to make it an easier process. I'm not a marshmallow fan but I think they look pretty in an arrangement. They are super cute for Valentine's Day and the kiddos say they are awesome! 💕 Ingredients : 1 bag Wilton Candy Melts (12 oz bag) 30 lollipop sticks 30 large marshmallows (I did not use the jumbo size) Sprinkles, coconut, chopped nuts, small candies Food coloring optional Directions: Melt the candy chips using a double boiler on the stove. Fill a medium size pan halfway with water and place a glass bowl on top. Heat over medium heat and make sure the water doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl or it'll get too hot. You can also melt the chips in the microwave in 30 second increments. Once the chips are melted, dip an end of the lollipop stick into the chip mixture about 1/2 inch then push it into the end of a marshmallow, al...

DIY Toys for Kids

I'm always amazed at kids toys and how expensive they can be, then you buy them and they end up playing with the box it came in-or it ends up in the bottom of a toy box soon after.  I have been making toys out of everyday items for quite a while now and these are a couple that seem to keep getting pulled out of the box and played with over and over. They were easy and cheap to make.  You can use plastic water bottles, soda bottles or something like it.  Then find all the little shiny, fluffy and interesting things you have in the junk drawer and put them in the bottle.  You will want to put some type of strong glue or hot glue around the inside of the cap to make sure it stays on and check it often to make sure it hasn't loosened.  These are good for infants, toddlers and even preschoolers. The little ones like to look at it, roll it and shake it, and for preschoolers it makes a fun "I Spy" game. I filled that bottle with rice, a rubberband, some little...

Piñata Cupcakes = Surprise

These adorable cupcakes are perfect for birthday parties. I let the kiddos pick out the little candies and the flavors and colors for the cupcakes. One of my favorite things about kids is that the little things bring the biggest smiles. This includes piñata cupcakes. Directions: Make the cupcakes by using your favorite cake mix or make the cupcakes from scratch.  After the cupcakes have cooled, using a sharp knife, cut a round section (about an inch) out of the top of each cupcake and cut about halfway into the cupcake. Use the knife tip to gently lift out the small circle of cake.  Save your cake circles and trim some of the cake off the bottom of each circle. You can add more candy that way! Mix your little candies together in a bowl and spoon about a tablespoon of candies into each cupcake hole.  The kiddos chose sprinkles, mini M&Ms and nerds for their candies. Place a cake circle on top of each cupcake once they are filled with candy. Frost yo...

Ice Cream Sundaes

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! We have been busy with projects, gardens and birthday parties! The favorite party idea this month was an ice cream sundae bar. I'm not sure who loved it more, the kiddos or the adults! This is super simple and you can use as many goodies as you want (or have on hand) for the toppings! We started with a half-gallon each of our favorite soft serve ice cream, strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. We served 12 people and had some ice cream left over. I bought some glass ice cream sundae dishes at our local Goodwill store, they're so cute! I used small dishes for the toppings and set them on the bar. For the super heroes party, I had some extra material to place under the goodies. You can serve fruit, nuts, sprinkles, flavored syrups, mini-m&ms, chocolate chips, cherries for the top, whipped cream, crushed cookies and your personal favorites! Enjoy a blessed day! Love and peace, ~Simply Tammi

Mother's Day Craft for Kids

Happy Mother's Day!  Here's a quick card idea for kids if you need one. I did this one with my daycare babies and toddlers yesterday. I just traced the infant's hands and cut and pasted. For the 2 year old, I traced his hand and he did the gluing, and put some bug stickers on his flower pot. I hope you have time to relax and enjoy your family this weekend! ~Simply Angie

Popcorn MarshmallowTreats

I'm so excited - the girls and I are getting ready for a road trip! My niece's annual dance recital is this weekend so my daughter and 3 of my grand-daughters are headed north! One of our family traditions is to bring snacks so we don't have to buy them along the way. I decided to make some popcorn treats for the trip, of course we'll bring the fruit too, but sometimes you just have to eat some gooey, sweet treats! This is a simple and quick recipe, perfect for all of us that are just too busy!! Ingredients: 12-14 cups air popped popcorn 1/2 bag miniature marshmallows, melted 1/4 c butter, melted 2 T coconut oil 1 c honey roasted peanuts Pop your popcorn and place in a large container, add peanuts (I used a large cookie storage container). In a large saucepan, melt marshmallows, butter and oil over medium low heat on stove. When melted pour over the top of the popcorn and peanuts and mix together. Pour into a 13x9 buttered pan and press down. Let it sit uncove...

Homemade Soft Play Dough

If you are looking for quick project to do with the kids to keep them entertained, homemade play dough is always a favorite at my house. They can help make it by mixing and kneading and picking what color they want to make it and then when it's done they can of course play with it.  For our batch we made red and yellow, then we could mix a little from both and also have... orange! (this was very exciting to a 2 year old!) This recipe makes quite a bit so if you only have one child you could half it. It will last quite awhile in an airtight container. I keep mine in the fridge. Here's what you need: 1cup flour  1/2 cup salt 1 cup water 1 tsp cream of tartar 1 Tbsp oil food coloring This can be cooked on the stove or in the microwave. Mix all ingredients in a pan or microwave safe bowl, if you are cooking on the stove, stir and cook until the ingredients leave the sides of the pan then remove it and let it cool. For cooking in the microwave, mix in a microwave s...

Valentine Crafts For Kids

If you have infants or toddlers, you know it can be a little tricky to make gifts, or craft projects that they can actually "do themselves". In my daycare, I have a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old. Here are a couple projects that they can pretty much make on their own..with a little supervision, of course. The first one is golf ball painting. I put a piece of construction paper into a box (you can cut it into a shape or leave it the size it is, you will want a box with high sides). Then add a little paint and a couple golf balls, you can also use marbles if you have them. Then have them tip and shake the box to roll the ball around to spread the paint on the paper.  When it's done, you have a cute gift or decoration that they made "all by themselves!"                                                                ...

DIY Valentine Day Project

We had a sleepover last weekend with our 5 year old grandson and our 9 year old granddaughter. It is our tradition to complete a craft project of their choice, so they decided to make a Valentine's Day gift for their parents. This project requires adult supervision (and lots of help) but there are parts of the project that the children can do alone. I let them choose all of their material, colors, and design their own project, and this is how they turned out - so cute and they were thrilled! Materials: 8x10 plain canvas quilt batting (optional) scrap material wooden letters paint glitter mod podge hot glue or fabric glue buttons, fabric flowers, or any decorations they choose I started the project by having them paint their letters while I stapled the batting and material (using a staple gun) onto the underside of the canvas. After the paint was dry, they painted a layer of mod podge over the letters and sprinkled glitter over them. While the letters were drying, we...

Homemade Painted Ornaments

If you are looking for a project to do with little ones, this is a great one for people of any age. Tammi started showing my kids how to make them years ago when my kids were little. They still like to make them. It's fun to look at them every year and see how much more creative they had gotten as they got older.  I bought these clear glass ornaments for under $2 for a set of 6. I put  a couple drops of acrylic paint inside (you can use other paint, that was just what I had). Then roll, shake and turn it until the paint is covering the inside of the ornament. This one was made by a 2 year old that I have in my daycare. After he was done rolling it around I put his name and year on it with a metallic marker, you could also use a Sharpie marker. Then I turned it upside down for a few hours to let the extra paint drip out and dry. If you don't want to use paint, you could also use glitter or pieces of tissue paper or anything small enough to fit in it. He ma...

Make Your Own Beautiful Bows

Bow complete! An inexpensive way to decorate for any holiday or gifts is to make your own bows. There are different methods for this project but this is my favorite, because it's easy! My 9 year old granddaughter helps me make these bows! Here We Go! You will need about 3 yards of ribbon for each bow. I use the wire-edged ribbon, it's easier to work with. You can choose any width but it's fun to use different sizes then your bows will be different sizes. I always buy my ribbon on sale and the large 90 feet rolls are a great value. You can find them at Hobby Lobby for 50% off, the cost is then $5.00 a roll. You can make about 10 bows from one roll. Start by measuring 3 yards of ribbon and cut your ribbon off the roll. Roll the ribbon (loosely) into a circle. The first end of the ribbon can be stapled or taped to the ribbon next to it so it will stay in place. Keep wrapping until your 3 yards of ribbon is in a circle. I like to roll mine in a 5 or 6 inch circle, bu...

Simply DIY Winter Scene In A Jar

It seems like whenever our mom comes to visit me, we "shop til we drop" literally-then we start projects! I saw these cute little figures and trees on sale when we were out shopping, (after all the hustle and bustle was pretty much over, Black Friday afternoon).  The glass jar was a thrift store find for $1, then I added fake snowflakes from Target, for $2. I used poster tack to stick the trees and people to the bottom of the jar so later I can take them out and use my jar for other things. The whole project cost about $8.  This would also be a fun project to do with the kids.   We also canned Spiced Cranberry Sauce and made a "No Sew Valance" from a bed skirt we found on clearance..more on those in a future post!   We hope you enjoyed time with your friends and family, and also had some quiet moments to just relax...or maybe work on some fun projects! Let us know what you are working on, we love hearing new ideas! ~Simply Angie

Simply Cute Cupcake Decoration and Colored Plate

It was craft time at Nana's last weekend. My 9 year old granddaughter spent some time with me and she made a cupcake decoration. We had a house full of family, helping me with my Christmas tree, stringing lights around the deck, and making some new holiday decorations. Usually I decorate using red and green but this year I really wanted to change to a more shabby chic, vintage Christmas. You know what that means, lots of pink! How to make cupcake decoration : Styrofoam balls (use any size) I used the hard foam Mod podge Acrylic paint Epsom salts Glitter Cupcake wrapper Decoration for the cupcake top Start with the size ball that will fit in your cupcake wrapper. Paint the ball with your favorite color. Let it dry, it only takes 15 minutes. Brush a coat of mod podge over the ball but don't brush over the top. Sprinkle glitter over the mod podge, we used pink glitter. When this is dry, paint mod podge over the top and dip the top into Epso...

Our Favorite Cream Cheese Mints

I recently made this recipe for my son's Confirmation. It has been used for multiple occasions and celebrations in our family. Everyone loves them and we've had several requests for the recipe.  These can be made ahead of time because they freeze well. You will need to use silicone or rubber molds. (They are not the same as the plastic molds for the candy melts). These are usually found at a kitchen or candy  supply store or they can be ordered online.  You might want to call in your "helpers" with these little sweeties, they are fun to make but they do take some time. Here's the recipe: 1  3 oz. package cream cheese 2 1/2 c powdered sugar 1/8 - 1/4 tsp flavoring (depending on how strong you want it, if you make the whole thing one flavor it is closer to 1/4 tsp but I usually split the dough into 3 and use about 1/8 tsp for each section) If you use oil, such as peppermint, you only need a few drops. Food coloring - a few drops (I split the dough into 3 par...

Graduation Party Ideas

We hope you have been blessed with a family filled Memorial Day weekend! Our party was amazing and of course friends and family make it perfect! We wanted to give you an idea of how you could organize a party of your own. Our goal was to keep things simple while offering a nice presentation, without too much clutter. We used our jars with the chalkboard contact paper for our candy and kept that theme by labeling each food item, we just stuck the contact paper to the table linens. We used the paper flowers from a previous post to border the bottom of the graduation banner. We also displayed Shya's artwork with wooden clothespins attached to jute. Hopefully you can get some new ideas and make your party planning a pleasant experience! Paper flowers start with plates, napkins and forks Glass jars with chalkboard contact paper Gardettos DIY cupcake stands Chocolate cupcakes, lemon cupcakes and sugar cookies Hugs and kisses, skittles and lemonheads...

Homemade Clay

With kids being out of school, it won't be long (or maybe you've already heard) "I'm bored!" Here is a fun, easy project for all ages to get involved in making, playing or both...unless you're a teenager, they just won't admit they are having fun!  I know there are lots of recipes for clay and play dough, I think I have tried most of them. This is one of my favorites for clay. This is a super soft dough, easy to clean up, and little hands can squeeze and mold it. It will harden if you leave it out or it can be dried in the oven.  We just keep ours in a bag in the cupboard, or the fridge if it's warm. It will last a few weeks in an airtight bag or container. This recipe was adapted from argocornstarch.com. It makes about 2 pounds (about 6, small fist, sized balls) but can easily be halved. Here's what you need: 1 c cornstarch 2 c baking soda 1 1/4 c cold water 1 T oil  food coloring is optional In medium saucepan stir cornstarch and ...

Sugar Scrub.. another Mother's Day gift idea

If you still need a quick, homemade gift idea, this is something you can make in a hurry, you probably have everything you need in your cupboards already. It's also a great project to have the kids help with,  I had an 18 month old "helper" adding handfuls of ingredients and stirring. I have seen several recipes for scrubs but this is the one I made for gifts.  You can also use the recipe we posted earlier for Simply Sugar Scrub. I used a small, wide mouth Ball jar but you can put it in any container with a lid.  This recipe will make one small Ball jar, but can be adapted to make the amount you need.  I used equal parts brown sugar and white sugar. (I used 1/4 c. of each.) 1 T cinnamon  Almond oil, drizzle in enough to make it a paste but not soupy... (unless you like it that way). Coconut Oil (optional) I used about a Tablespoon because it adds extra moisture, it's thick and I like the smell Extract of your choice (optional). It's fine without it, but i...
